SCULPSURE VS. COOLSCULPTING
CoolSculpting and SculpSure – Is One Better for Non-Surgical Fat Removal?
Even with diet and exercise, most people have pockets of stubborn fat that seem impossible to lose, and want to lose a few inches, but do not want to have surgical procedure such as liposuction, which involves anesthesia, puncture wounds and some recovery time. There are only 2 non-invasive body contouring procedures that are FDA cleared for the destruction of fat cells without surgery – CoolSculpting and, more recently, SculpSure. Researching these two procedures on the internet can quickly become overwhelming when trying to decide between CoolSculpting the “older” technology for body contouring procedure, and SculpSure, the newest body contouring procedure taking the non-invasive fat reduction market by storm.
SIMILARITIES BETWEEN COOLSCULPTING AND SCULPSURE:
Both procedures work by destroying fat cells that can be gradually and naturally eliminated by the body. Both treatments have clinical records of proven long-term results with some results noticeable six weeks post-treatment and optimal results fully visible 12 weeks post-treatment. SculpSure and CoolSculpting produce similar results, as well, providing up to a 24% reduction in fat. However, this is where the similarities end.
DIFFERENCES BETWEEN COOLSCULPTING AND SCULPSURE:
While Sculpsure’s average treatment time is just 25 minutes for one area, a CoolSculpting procedure averages closer to 50 minutes.
CoolSculpting uses a technique called cryolipolysis that cools the treated fat cells to temperatures which cause cell death. The fatty area to be treated is then suctioned into the machine’s vacuum applicator, exposing the fat cells to a controlled temperature that has been proven to freeze fat.
SculpSure is a hyperthermic device, meaning it uses heat to destroy the fat cells, leaving patients with approximately 24% less fat in the treated area. While heat is being delivered evenly to the fat and surrounding tissue, the surface of the skin remains cool due to the contact cooling system. The laser’s heat also helps to stimulate collagen and elastic, the building blocks of healthy skin, which helps the skin to appear firmer. The disrupted fat cells are filtered and eliminated by your body’s lymphatic system.
Pain and Numbness
It’s very common for CoolSculpting patients to require narcotics or neuropathic pain medications such as Neurontin to help manage the post-treatment pain. Because CoolSculpting’s suction applicator does not differentiate between fat and nerves, both are “sucked” into the applicator during treatment, resulting in greater pain and numbness than with SculpSure. New research is now revealing that CoolSculpting can cause more severe future complications, such as delayed onset of pain and nerve damage. Delayed pain typically occurs a few days post-treatment and can cause neuropathic symptoms such as stabbing, burning and shooting pain within the treated areas that does not respond well to medication.
SculpSure utilizes laser energy to heat the fat cells, releasing them from the tissue to be naturally eliminated by the body. Many patients describe the treatment as a soothing, warming sensation that does not pose any threat to the surrounding nerves. Because only fat cells are targeted, the nerves and skin are left completely unaffected. Additionally, SculpSure’s applicator head sits on top of the skin and does not use suction. The heat from the laser “spreads” evenly beyond the applicator head to allow for better blending between treated and non-treated areas.
Type of Fat Treated
The applicators used in CoolSculpting require “pinchable” fat that is large enough to be pulled and sucked into the applicator for treatment. First, this can be uncomfortable, but more importantly, trouble fatty areas that are not big enough to get pulled into the applicator cannot be treated with CoolSculpting.
SculpSure ensures comfort by utilizing flat applicators that do not use a suction method, allowing SculpSure to treat smaller areas of fat previously untreatable with CoolSculpting. SculpSure’s technology allows for the treatment of even the smallest area of fat.
A SculpSure patient can literally return to work after receiving a SculpSure treatment, as it involves zero downtime. Many CoolSculpting patients experience significant swelling and bruising after treatment, preventing them from returning to their normal activities for up to a few days.
SculpSure is a breakthrough laser system designed to reduce fat in stubborn areas resistant to diet and exercise without surgery or downtime. SculpSure treatments are non-invasive and are FDA-cleared to destroy fat in problem areas such as the abdomen, “love handles” and more! It’s ideal for someone who leads an overall healthy lifestyle, but has troublesome areas that are not responding to regular diet and exercise.
